ROADWAY IMPROVEMENT PLAN
The recommended roadway improvement plan has been divided into the following categories:
-
High Priority Projects: These are defined as transportation system improvements that address an immediate or relatively
near term need such as traffic volumes in excess of the current capacity, accident hazards, etc. In addition, this list
is defined as based on the level of funding estimated to be available in the first 15 years of the transportation planning
period (2003 through 2018).
-
Priority Projects: The list of Priority Projects include transportation system improvements that address current needs
along lower volume corridors or subareas of the county that require additional through lanes or needs identified based
on the level and location of development assumed within the 20-year planning period. This list is also differentiated
from the High Priority list based on the timing of the need for action and, to a certain extent, level of funding assumed
to be available annually in the county. It has been assumed that the level of funding available in the county in any one
year could be highly variable. On average, approximately $12.5 million per year would be available to fund transportation
improvements.
-
Needs Beyond the 20-Year Funding Capacity: Federal guidelines require that the 20-year transportation plan be fiscally
constrained to the estimated level of public and/or private sector funding available to the study area. Over the 20-year
planning period, approximately $250 million were projected to be available for improvement projects within the county.
Recommended roadway improvements are displayed in the attached
Roadway Plan Map and
Roadway Plan Tables.
